Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust (EHAAT) has protected its vital life-saving equipment with SmartWater technology.
The deal with SmartWater, leading provider of forensic crime prevention strategies, services and products, was completed last month (June) and now equipment including all EHAAT’s IT, monitors and medical equipment across both Earls Colne and North Weald airbases are tagged with a unique forensic code.
This means each person, business or organization using the SmartWater technology is issued with their own unique forensic traceable liquid. If marked items are stolen and then recovered by police, they can be easily traced back to their rightful owners.
Stuart Elms, Clinical Director at EHAAT, said: “The team at SmartWater has been fantastic with their advice and help. It has enabled us to provide the top-level deterrent to both our headquarters and airbases. Both IT and medical equipment is now marked and the buildings clearly advertise that SmartWater is in use.
“As a charity we cannot afford to lose expensive equipment, as a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), our patients cannot afford us being unable to respond if our equipment was stolen.
“It is a reassuring feeling to know we are covered by such an amazing organization and powerful product.”
Formed in 1993, SmartWater has become globally recognized as a crime- deterrent, with criminals choosing not to target property when they see SmartWater deterrent signage.
To date a total of 1.8 million unique codes have been manufactured, with 750,000 registered to private homeowners, 40,000 UK schools and businesses protected and about 30,000 churches across the UK.
SmartWater Chief Executive Phil Cleary said: “SmartWater maintains a 100% conviction rate when used as evidence in court and has aided the successful conviction of hundreds of criminals. As a result, it is considered to be a powerful deterrent, which will directly benefit Essex and Herts Air Ambulance by making their equipment significantly less attractive to thieves.”
